What is the Gate Exam?


The full form of the GATE Exam is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Exam. GATE Exam is conducted every year to recruit Engineers through GATE. This exam is mandatory for the Graduate Engineers who seek or wish to take admission in the renowned college. It is conducted by the seven IITs(Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science(IISc). 

After qualifying the GATE Exam a candidate can pursue his/ her masters in either from one of the best colleges in the nation or can apply and can get recruited in government posts. The GATE score is valid for 3 years. 

GAte conducts Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Exam every year for the selection for higher studies or PSU jobs. Many of the leading colleges like the IITs take admission in M.Tech through GATE score Card. At the same time, PSUs like ONGC, NPCIL, BPCL, HPCL, NHAI etc. recruit Engineers through GATE Score.

  1. Must have completed or in the final year of postgraduate(Master’s) degree (duration: at least two years) in any relevant science subject, or

GATE 2020 Mock Test

IIT Delhi has released the GATE 2020 Mock Test on 9th november in online mode. GATE Mock Test is available in the form of an online test to help students practice the exam. GATE 2020 mock tests help to score good marks in the exam. The GATE mock test featured the exact pattern, marking scheme and difficulty level of the question paper. GATE 2020 Exam pattern

The Exam Pattern and selection Procedure for gate 2020 is as follow:

  • The GATE Exam for 2020 will be conducted Online.

  • It will be a Computer Based Test(CBT) 

  • You will have a mux of MCO (multiple choice questions) an NAT (numerical Answer Type)

  • You will be asked 65 questions in 3 hours.

  • There will be a negative marking of ⅓ marks for every 1 marks questions.

  • There will be a negative marking of 2/43 marks for every 2 marks question. 

  • The GATE Exam will be a total of 100 marks.

  • The Merit List will be made on the basis of the cut odd and the candidates qualifying it.

GATE 2020 Admit Card

The GATE organizing authority has issued the gate 2020admit card for the applicants on 3rd January 2020. To download your GATE 2020 admit card you need GOAPS Enrollment ID and password. Make sure you carry an admit card to the exam hall, without admit card, entry in the examination hall is restricted.

To download the GATE 2020 Admit Card, the following steps need to be followed:

  1. Candidates have to visit the hyyp://gate.iitd.ac.in/

  2. Click on the GATE 2020 Admit Card Link.

  3. Enter the registration number and password 

  4. candidate ‘s admit card i'll be displayed on the screen 

  5. Take the printout of the GATE 2020Admit Card.

GATE 2020 Results: 16 March 2020

GATE 2020 result will be declared by IIT Delhi (the exam conducting authority) on 16 March 202. Once released, candidates will be able to check the or GATE result on the official website by logging in using their details. Along with the results, the institute also released category wise GATE qualifying marks. Candidates must note that the score card of GATE 2020 will be issued to only those who will secure marks equal to or above the qualifying marks as per their category.

Frequently Asked Questions for GATE 2020 (FAQ)

Q. For how many papers, a candidate can apply in GATE 2020?

A. A candidate can apply for only ONE (1) of the 25 papers listed in the GATE 2020 Information Brochure or GATE website. The list of subjects is available on shiksha.com. A candidate can appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of his/her qualifying degree. However, a candidate is free to choose any other paper according to his or her admission plan.

Q. Is a candidate allowed to change his/her GATE Examination Paper after submission of the application?

A. YES, a request for the change of GATE Examination Paper will be entertained against payment. A specific time period for the same will be notified. 

Q. Is a candidate allowed to change his/her GATE Examination City after submission of the application?

A. YES, but only after the last date for submission of application, a request for the change of examination city will be entertained against payment. A specific time period for the same will be notified.

Q. Will a candidate be given a white paper for rough work and calculations during the examination?

A. A scribble pad will be provided to the candidate that can be used to do the rough work which must be returned after the examination.

Q. Will I be allowed to leave the examination hall during the examination?

A. NO, candidates will NOT be allowed to leave the examination hall for any reason during the examination.

Q. Has the GATE pattern changed from previous years'?

A. There is no change in the GATE pattern. GATE exam pattern will help the students to know about types of questions and structure of the exam.

Q. How many total numbers of questions will be asked in the GATE 2020 exam?

A. The GATE paper will have a total of 65 questions.

Q. Are fixed marks allotted to Numeric Answer Type Questions?

A. No, fixed marks aren’t allotted to Numeric Answer type questions, it may vary in between 25 to 40 marks.
