Filipino Macaroni Salad Tips

What ingredients are essential to Filipino macaroni salad?

Filipino macaroni salad is a popular dish in the Philippines. While its exact origins are unknown, it is believed to have been influenced by giving Western macaroni salad recipes a tropical twist with crushed pineapple, chopped ham, hard-boiled eggs, chicken, sweetened condensed milk and vegetables like carrots and peas.

How else can you cook chicken for Filipino macaroni salad?

Instead of simmering the chicken on the stovetop, you could prepare the shredded chicken by cooking it in the Instant Pot or the slow cooker. If you have leftover chicken, you can absolutely use that chicken for Filipino macaroni salad. In general, one pound of chicken breasts makes three cups of shredded chicken.

What do you serve with Filipino macaroni salad?

Filipino macaroni salad is often served as a side dish or as part of a holiday meal, and it’s especially popular during Christmas. It pairs well with grilled or roasted meats such as chicken adobo and barbecue pork, and it’s fantastic when served with other Filipino dishes like garlic fried rice or lumpia.

How long will leftover Filipino macaroni salad last?

Filipino macaroni salad will last up to 5 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Stir in a little extra mayonnaise just before serving to refresh Filipino macaroni salad, as the pasta will absorb the moisture from the dressing and the leftovers can be a little dry.

Can you make Filipino macaroni salad in advance?

Filipino macaroni salad can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator until ready to serve. In fact, we recommended refrigerating the salad for a few hours (or overnight) before serving to allow the flavors to meld together. Just make sure to keep the salad properly covered to prevent it from drying out.

What’s one thing 40+ ounce water bottles, like Yeti or Hydro Flask, and coffee mugs all have in common? They don’t fit in most car cup holders, resulting in rattling bottles on the car floor or spilled coffee. Fed up with not having a spot to fit my large capacity water bottles and cute travel mugs, I came across the answer: A car cup holder expander. Spoiler: Road trips are so. much. better. thanks to this genius find.

What is a car cup holder expander?

Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like. The expander makes room for large water bottles that don’t fit in regular car cup holders. Boasting an adjustable base that expands to fit cup holders between 2.6 and 3.8 inches, it offers just the right amount of room to fit every type of bottle or mug. Simply twist the car cup holder expander until it’s secure and you’ve got the perfect spot for coffee mugs and lofty water bottles. Reviewers also note it works in golf cart cup holders too.

Before testing this product, I used to hold my Hydro Flask or travel mug in my hands while riding in the passenger seat. Or worse, I would throw my larger-than-life water bottle on the passenger seat while driving. Now, that problem is a thing of the past with this road trip game-changer.

Pro tip: If your car’s cup holders are more than 2.75 inches deep, the brand recommends the long base version.

Ready for the easiest setup ever? The car cup holder expander arrives in three pieces that easily fit together. Simply attach the adjustable base to the cup holder with the included screw. Then pop in the circular padding into the cup holder and it’s ready to work its magic.

The twistable base adjusts to your car cup holder’s size in no time. Just pop it in and twist it until it’s snug and secure. As simple as it sounds, the car cup holder expander never fails to impress me. I especially love the silicone tabs around the holder’s edges to keep bottles from rattling around. And the side slot ideal for cups with handles is a total plus if you prefer taking your favorite coffee mug to the office and can’t go anywhere without your Stanley tumbler.

The Best Amazon User Reviews

When an Amazon product has more than 6,700 five-star ratings, it’s usually a keeper—as is the case with this problem-solving find. Here’s what other reviews love about the car cup holder expander:

Verified Amazon reviewer, Allie Szoke, raves, “This is a great cup holder expander. It’s adjustable and fits any cup holder, it’s easy to set up and even has a slot on the side for the handle of a cup. It’s perfect.”

“My wife loves her Nalgene bottles, but was constantly trying to find a place for it to fit in her car,” writes Nathan Knight, a verified Amazon reviewer. “This product is exactly what she needed. She couldn’t be happier with how it fits with the profile of her console right next to the armrest.”

“For years, I have just left my Hydro Flask on the passenger seat or on the floor listening to it roll around and waiting for a red light until I could get a drink of water,” shares verified Amazon reviewer, Mary. “Why it took me so long to buy this is beyond me, but I am so glad I did! I recommend this to all my large water bottle friends and family! No more sounds of a rolling Hydro Flask or waiting until I’m stopped to drink water.”

We Tried the 3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven, and It Really Does Do It All https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/cuisinart-pizza-oven-review/ Thu, 20 Jul 2023 17:02:15 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1900825 The Cuisinart pizza oven is so much more than its name suggests. In fact, the handy outdoor appliance can grill and griddle too.

3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven

I was never big on cooking pizza at home. Homemade pasta? Yes. Homemade pie crust? Absolutely. That is, until a few years back when I took a virtual class with Scott Wiener, the unofficial king of New York pizza. His workshop inspired and reinvigorated me in the kitchen, forever changing the way I view homemade pizza.

Preparing homemade pizza can be simple. You just need the right recipes and the right tools. Heck, my homemade pizza sauce is nothing more than crushed tomatoes mixed with salt, pepper and olive oil. And when it comes to the latter category, tools, I rely on my 3-in-1 Cuisinart pizza oven.

What is the 3-in-1 Cuisinart pizza oven?

3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven with oven, griddle and grill

The 3-in-1 Cuisinart pizza oven is an outdoor pizza oven—and then some. As the name suggests, this one-of-a-kind propane-fueled appliance has three functions. It includes a cast-iron griddle, cast-iron grill grate and 13-inch cordierite pizza stone that fits snugly between built-in pegs on the grill grate. Whichever surfaces aren’t in use can be neatly stowed underneath.

The griddle is perfect for delicacies like eggs, paninis and pancakes. And the grill grate has you covered for favorites such as steaks, sausages, vegetables and burgers. And the pizza oven function is pretty self-explanatory. In sum, it’s your one-stop pizza-making tool for outdoor cooking.

The squat appliance is 20 inches deep, 25 inches wide and a little more than 17 inches tall; it weighs 45 pounds. And on Amazon (where tons of pizza ovens are available), there’s the option to include a pizza peel and oven cover on your order.

3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven Features

3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven

Pizza Stone

The pizza stone, made of cordierite, measures 13 inches in diameter. So, for reference, it can hold the standard small-size pie from a pizzeria or the typical frozen supermarket pizza. The stone’s natural material can withstand high temperatures without the threat of thermal shock, so it’s ideal for retaining and distributing heat.

Grill Grate

Grill grates are often made of stainless or porcelain-coated steel or cast iron. These grates, in particular, are made of cast iron, meaning they’re durable, produce impressive sear marks and distribute heat evenly. The 3-in-1 Cuisinart pizza oven boasts 260 square inches of grilling space—you’ll just want to make sure you season the surface before using it.

Griddle

Unless you have a Blackstone, it’s not often that you get to griddle outside! This cast-iron griddle offers 223 square inches of cooking space for any of your remaining culinary adventures. Think burgers, grilled cheese and omelets.

Lid

This clever lid/door does double duty. For grilling, the lid lifts from the bottom like normal. Or, when you’re cooking a pizza, keep the lid closed and use the flap door on the front to check the pie’s progress.

How We Tested It

To set up the pizza oven, I followed the manual’s instructions. There wasn’t so much “assembly” as there was fitting together pre-built parts. It was so easy and took only a few minutes. Then, I placed it on a safe, sturdy surface—a metal table in my backyard—and connected it to a propane tank (not included) like I would any other gas grill.

3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven

I didn’t season the grill grates because I knew the pizza would go directly on the nonstick stone; I just went straight at it with the pizza. First, I preheated the oven, with the stone inside, while I prepared my pie directly on a pizza peel.

Then, I formed the homemade dough onto the peel. (I quickly found that this pizza oven was too hot for cornmeal, so skip sprinkling it underneath the dough.) Then, I added my aforementioned four-ingredient sauce (store-bought works too!), a handful of part-skim shredded mozzarella and my desired toppings of olives, red onions and pepperoni.

This oven got so hot so fast that I actually needed to turn the dial down to get the temperature gauge within the conveniently labeled “pizza” range. I then used a pair of tongs to shimmy the uncooked pizza off the peel and onto the already-sizzling stone. (You want the stone to be hot, hot, hot to immediately char the bottom crust.)

3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven

I ended up cooking my pie at about 600°, and unlike a few super-speedy ovens, it took a few minutes to bake all the way through. No complaints here—I was able to grab a beer and sit down for a sec.

After enjoying some char-kissed slices, I waited for the oven to cool down. This took less than an hour. Once it was safe to the touch, I removed the pizza stone, rinsed it under hot water, removed any of the stuck-on bits with a nylon pan scraper and let it air-dry.

Of course, it didn’t go back onto the grates looking pristine, but that’s the sign of a well-loved pizza stone. Plus, much like a cast-iron skillet, it becomes increasingly nonstick with each use.

During the off-season or rainy weather, I store the pizza oven, covered and unhooked from the propane tank, in my garage. Otherwise, I leave it outdoors, out of reach from pets and children.

Pros

  • Easily maneuverable door and temperature dial
  • Modest price point
  • Heats quickly and consistently
  • Simple assembly
  • Multi-functional grill, griddle and pizza oven

Cons

  • Slightly longer cook time
  • On the heavier and bigger side

FAQ

How long does it take to cook pizza in a Cuisinart pizza oven?

When cooking my pizzas at 600°, they took about 3 minutes to bake. The cook time will vary depending on the temperature of the pizza oven and your preferred bake. (I like my crust extra browned and crispy!)

What temperature is the Cuisinart pizza oven?

The Cuisinart pizza oven gauge reads temperatures between 200° and 700°. The ideal range for pizza, which is between about 525° and 650°, is clearly marked. Furthermore, I was able to max out the temperature gauge and heat the oven to about 800°, but I like to stay in the designated pizza zone.

Can you cook a frozen pizza in a Cuisinart pizza oven?

Yes, you can cook a frozen pizza in a Cuisinart pizza oven, though I’d recommend following the guidelines provided on the pizza’s packaging. If the directions say to bake the pizza at 425° for 12 minutes, then do that, rather than toying with the temperature and cook time. This is your safest bet for a yummy bite to eat.

What Other Reviewers Had to Say

There are so many reasons to love the 3-in-1 Cuisinart pizza oven. Here’s a slice of what satisfied customers are saying.

Verified Amazon purchaser Chris McManus has ditched dining out thanks to this product. “I wasn’t sure if I was really going to like or use this,” he comments. “We’ve used it four out of five weeks. No more Blaze, Mod or Pieology. We’ve got it better at home.”

Another five-star reviewer has tried various types of pizza ovens, and this propane-fueled one is among his favorites. “So far, this is an awesome pizza oven,” Markie writes. “I’ve tried the pellet ones, and there is no comparison.”

And one pizza-lover with seven mouths to feed has gotten super creative with her use of the oven. “I don’t use the stone because we often make deep dish,” Kayla says. “We can fit two 9-inch rounds in the oven at a time, and the bottoms come out crispy every time. It was worth every penny.”

Product Comparison

I’ve tested three pizza ovens at this point. One ran on wood pellets, and the other two (i.e., this Cuisinart pizza oven and the Ooni Koda) ran on propane. The Cuisinart was my favorite for a few reasons.

Although setup of the two gas ovens was comparable, I felt the Cuisinart was a bit sturdier than the Ooni, which had collapsible legs that made me a little nervous. Moreover, the Ooni has open flames that feel a little intimidating to a novice pizza maker like me. I preferred the Cuisinart heating system, as it felt safer.

And let’s not forget the versatility! This pizza oven isn’t just a pizza oven like so many others on the market. It comes with a grill and griddle to fulfill all your outdoor cooking fantasies. Plus, it’s such a fair price, especially when you consider its multi-functionality. (Keep up with more pizza oven deals!)

Final Verdict

3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven

I have nothing but good things to say about the 3-in-1 Cuisinart pizza oven. In fact, I was hard-pressed to come up with a single con. The pizza it produced was incredible.

Although it takes up a bit of space (unavoidable!), it’s absolutely worth the couple hundred bucks if you’re big on entertaining, pizza or dining al fresco. Its multi-functionality softens the blow of its decent-sized footprint because, really, it’s the only cooker you need in your backyard. I’m hooked!

Where to Buy the 3-in-1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven

3 In 1 Cuisinart Pizza Oven

The Cuisinart pizza oven, which costs between $225 and $300, is available from multiple retailers: Amazon, Williams Sonoma, Walmart and Home Depot. When it comes to pizza ovens, trust this is the upper crust!

How to Make Mexican Street Corn (Elote Recipe) https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/mexican-street-corn-elote/ Thu, 20 Jul 2023 15:13:30 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1888701 This creamy, cheesy Mexican street corn recipe will be your favorite way to enjoy grilled corn on the cob.

The post How to Make Mexican Street Corn (Elote Recipe) appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
If you’re an avid street food connoisseur, you’re likely familiar with Mexican street corn, or elote (the Spanish word for “corn”). This summery snack is slathered with a creamy sauce made from mayo and sour cream, then topped with Cotija cheese and chili powder for a bit of heat.

You don’t have to find a street corn vendor to enjoy this Mexican food. Just pick up a few ears of corn and fire up the grill!

How to Make Mexican Street Corn

ingredients for Mexican street Corn on a blue wood background

This Mexican street corn recipe from James Schend, a former Taste of Home editor, makes 6 servings.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium ears sweet corn
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup minced fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon grated lime zest
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 6 tablespoons Cotija cheese
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons chili powder

Editor’s Tip: Cotija cheese is an aged Mexican cheese that has a similar taste to Parmesan. Find it at your local grocery store or a Mexican convenience store if you have one nearby.

Directions

Step 1: Peel back the husks

husking an ear of corn

Carefully peel back the corn husks until they’re about 1 inch away from the bottoms. Remove the silk by either using a produce brush and brushing the silks away under running water or rubbing the cob with a gloved hand until the silk falls off.

Step 2: Wrap the corn

Rewrap each ear of corn in its husk and secure with butcher’s twine. You need butcher’s twine for this step because it’s oven-safe—regular string won’t work. You don’t want to worry about anything burning while your corn is cooking.

Step 3: Soak the corn

In a Dutch oven, cover the corn with cold water. Let soak for 20 minutes and then drain.

Step 4: Grill the corn

While you’re waiting for the corn to soak, preheat your grill to medium heat (or 350°F). If you’re using a charcoal grill, cook the corn over direct heat.

Place the corn on the grill and cover. Cook for 25 to 30 minutes, until the corn is tender, turning the ears of corn often.

Step 5: Make the elotes mixture

putting mixture onto an ear of corn

In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, cilantro, lime zest and juice. Peel back the husk on each ear of corn and spread the mixture generously over the kernels.

Step 6: Top with Cotija and chili powder

Sprinkle each ear of corn with Cotija cheese and chili powder and serve on a platter, or let everyone assemble an ear of corn so the toppings are to their liking. Elotes are best served immediately so the mixture remains nice and warm on the crisp corn.

Tips for Making Mexican Street Corn

What substitutions can you make in a Mexican street corn recipe?

If you have trouble finding Cotija cheese, use Parmesan, feta or queso fresco. Substitute tajin for the chili powder for an added zing to your elote. You can also use Mexican crema instead of mayonnaise for a more authentic taste.

For a dairy-free version of this recipe, swap out the sour cream and mayonnaise with 1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise and use your favorite vegan Cotija or Parmesan cheese instead.

What do you serve with Mexican street corn?

Unsurprisingly, Mexican street corn pairs well with a variety of Mexican food. Serve it alongside burrito recipes, birria tacos, taquitos or even fajitas! It’s the perfect combination when you’re in the mood for Mexican cuisine.

They're easy!

The post How to Make Bacon-Wrapped Pork Chops appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
Juicy, easy and packed with flavor: we’re talking about your next delicious dinner, aka bacon-wrapped pork chops. The humble chops are wrapped in bacon which bastes the pork during baking for a moist texture and a smoky taste. They’re broiled right at the end with a little barbecue sauce to make the pork chops tangy and sweet.

The recipe calls for boneless pork chops—pick some up the next time they’re on sale and keep them in the freezer to make this recipe anytime. (Here are three ways to safely thaw frozen pork chops.) The chops bake up in about a half hour and are easy to put together with bacon strips and seasonings.

Easy Bacon-Wrapped Pork Chops Recipe

The chops need only a few minutes of prep time and are finished baking in about 25-30 minutes. The recipe serves 4.

Ingredients

Overhead Shot Of All Ingredients On The Surface

  • 4 boneless pork chops (6 ounces each)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 8 strips thin-sliced bacon
  • Toothpicks
  • 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce

Editor’s Tip: Here are the best bacon brands, according to our Test Kitchen pros.

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the chops

Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a small baking sheet with foil. Spray the foil with nonstick spray. Use a sharp knife to make small slits in the fat layer on the pork chops, about one inch apart. (This helps prevent the meat from curling as it cooks.) Sprinkle the chops on both sides with salt and pepper.

Step 2: Add the bacon

Hands Wrapping Pork Chops With Bacon

Wrap two strips of bacon around each pork chop; secure them in place with toothpicks. Place the chops seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3: Bake

Bake the pork chops uncovered for 20-25 minutes, flipping them over once, until an instant-read thermometer inserted in the center reads 145°.

Step 4: Broil with sauce

Pork Being Brushed With Barbecue Sauce

Switch the oven to the broil setting and move the rack so that the pork chops sit about six inches below the heat. Broil the chops for 1-2 minutes until the bacon is crisp; then flip them and repeat on the other side. Finally, brush one side with barbecue sauce, then broil the chops for 1-2 minutes more, to caramelize the sauce.

Step 5: Serve

Bacon Wrapped Pork Chops with bun and corn

Remove the toothpicks from the pork chops, and serve them while they’re nice and hot.

How to Tell When Pork Chops Are Done

A digital thermometer is your best bet to cook pork chops to the perfect temperature. Pork is safe to eat when it reaches an internal temperature between 145° and 160°. In this recipe, the chops are baked just until they reach 145°—that way they can continue to cook from residual heat and for a few minutes under the broiler without getting dried out.

If you see a little bit of pink in the center of the chops, don’t worry—they’re safe to eat.

What to Serve with Bacon-Wrapped Pork Chops

These smoky, bacony chops go really well with steak-cut French fries or creamy mashed potatoes. Pair them with a hearty veggie side dish like roasted Brussels sprouts or grilled corn on the cob. And folks will be thrilled to find a basket of warm buttermilk biscuits with honey butter to enjoy with the pork chops.

Tips for Making Bacon-Wrapped Pork Chops

What kind of bacon do you use for pork chops?

While we love our thick-cut bacon, it will be too chewy here. The best type of bacon for these pork chops is thinly-sliced: they still have plenty of fat to keep the chops juicy, and will also crisp up better under the broiler.

How can you make bacon-wrapped pork chops your own?

While they’re delicious simply seasoned with salt and pepper, try rubbing in other spices for more layers of flavor: garlic powder, onion powder, hot paprika or chipotle chili powder for a touch of smoky heat. Rub some brown sugar into the chops before adding the bacon; it will caramelize under the heat to add a little sweetness. And of course, there are dozens of barbecue sauce varieties to try, including mustard-based South Carolina style and molasses-sweetened Kansas City style.

Can you make bacon-wrapped pork chops ahead of time?

Yes! Once the bacon-wrapped chops are finished baking, allow them to cool to room temperature. Wrap them tightly in a dish and store them in the fridge for up to five days.

How do you reheat bacon-wrapped pork chops without drying them out?

To reheat the chops, place them in a baking dish and add a little liquid—stock, water or even apple juice—to help them stay moist. Cover the pan tightly in foil and place in a 350° oven for about 30 minutes, until they’re warmed through.

I Tried a Bean Box Subscription and It Changed My Mornings for the Better https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/bean-box-review/ Wed, 19 Jul 2023 15:46:53 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1900363 Our Bean Box review showed us this coffee subscription is the easiest way to curate your morning cup from the bean flavor to the brew method.

The post I Tried a Bean Box Subscription and It Changed My Mornings for the Better appeared first on Taste of Home.

Despite my morning person tendencies, I still struggle to wake up. As silly as it sounds, sometimes the only thing that gets me fired up to start the day is a delicious cup of coffee. It’s either a strong iced latte with hints of vanilla in the summer or a warm, toasty cup of Joe any other season.

But after rotating through multiple popular coffee brands to master my morning routine, I’ve found myself in a coffee rut and craving something more than what’s available in the store. That’s when I discovered the Bean Box coffee subscription.

Personalized and easy to set up, my Bean Box subscription has introduced me to a whole new world of coffee I never knew existed. Here’s why it’s the ultimate pick me up for coffee connoisseurs and beginners alike.

What is a Bean Box subscription?

Bean Box Subscription

Based in Seattle, Washington, Bean Box offers independently roasted specialty coffee. They’re most popular for their custom-curated coffee subscription boxes, but they also offer beans (or grounds) a la carte. Bean Box is basically like having access to a coffee sommelier. They work with the nation’s best independent roasters to bring top-notch beans straight to your cup exactly when and how you want them.

As for their coffee subscriptions? Every step is customized by the drinker. Simply choose between whole bean or ground coffee, your ideal flavor profile (espresso and decaf options are available), how much coffee you want each delivery and how often you want the beans delivered. If you decide you’re stocked up on coffee after a few weeks, you can pause or cancel at any time.

How We Tested It: Bean Box Review

Beanbox4 Edit

Subscription Set-Up

Bean Box Subscription

My Bean Box review started with taking the online questionnaire (it’s literally just four questions). Because whole-bean coffee allows for a more robust tasting experience, I opted for whole beans over freshly ground coffee.

Next, it was time to select my ideal tasting experience: Curator’s choice, light and bright, medium and cozy, dark and toasty, espresso or decaf. To get the full Bean Box subscription experience, I opted for curator’s choice. There’s just something about having coffee sommeliers hand-pick my brew based on seasonality that sounds delightful. I’m quite happy I went this route (it’s also the brand’s most popular tasting experience).

At the time of testing, I was living with my sister and boyfriend, so I opted for the delivery of two bags every month to ensure there was enough coffee to go around each morning.

Month 1: Tasting and Brew Experience

Bean Box Subscription

My preferred brew method is pour-over coffee in my glass coffee maker. A light and balanced blend with notes of fig jam, chocolate and cherry surrounded me upon opening the first bag. The aroma was unlike anything I’d ever smelled inside a bag of coffee. I mean, my first impression blew me away—and that’s just from the smell test.

I appreciate that the bag tells you the “golden ratio” for the perfect brew (it’s two tablespoons of coffee per six ounces of water, in case you’re wondering). This certainly made me realize that I use way too much water in my typical pour-overs. With three coffee drinkers that morning, I ground six tablespoons of beans in my favorite coffee grinder (hi, Hamilton Beach coffee grinder).

OK, time for the fun part and the reason you’re here. How does Bean Box coffee actually taste? I’ll start with this: My coffee-tasting experience was rich, robust and full of surprises. I drink my coffee black on most days, and the Colombia del Campo blend I tested first had a subtle tartness mixed with soft notes of cherry chocolate, just like the bag mentioned.

The next day, I tested the Ethiopia Yabitu Koba Natural coffee. I didn’t know coffee could have notes of cotton candy until this Bean Box review, and it certainly tickled my tongue in the best way. Unlike the light and balanced Colombian blend, it had a medium and cozy taste to it. This was slightly surprising considering its tasting notes are lemon, raspberry and cotton candy. Still, it certainly did not disappoint.

Month 2: Tasting and Brew Experience

Between three coffee drinkers, we went through the first month’s worth of beans (two bags) in about three weeks. So when the second shipment showed up, our palettes were cleansed and ready for more specialty coffee.

Instead of two 12-ounce bags, our shipment came with four six-ounce bags: A light and balanced Colombian blend brewed and a medium and toasty blend called Cafe Carmelita. Yum!

I seriously looked forward to waking up in the morning thanks to this round of Bean Box coffee. With notes of caramel, chocolate and sugar cane between the two blends, I thoroughly enjoyed the rich yet balanced sweetness. Even if you don’t love black coffee, you’re going to want to skip the coffee creamer with Bean Box because the flavor is so robust.

Following the same brew method as before, this round of coffee lasted about two and a half weeks. If I had to re-do my subscription, I’d go for the two-week delivery option. Still, I was thoroughly impressed with the entire subscription experience. I’m not kidding when I say this was the best quality of coffee I have ever brewed in my home. Though I love my typical Trader Joe’s coffee beans, they definitely got pushed aside while we enlightened our tastebuds with a whole new land of coffee thanks to Bean Box.

Overall Impression

Aside from excellent, curated coffee, what really blew me away was the learning experience gained from my Bean Box subscription review. Not only does the bag include tasting notes, roast strength and a fun little description about the tasting experience, but it also notes where the beans are from and the exact date they were roasted. It’s these little details that set Bean Box apart from other coffee brands.

Pros

  • Personalized subscription
  • Independently roasted
  • Expert-curated coffee
  • Espresso and decaf options available
  • Coffee is roasted to order
  • Subscription holders can earn:
    • Free shipping
    • Exclusive pricing, deals and promotions
    • Free coffee (and 5% back in credits on every order!)
  • Ability to skip a week or edit your coffee subscription at any time

Cons

  • Bean Box offers specialty coffee so it’s a tad pricier than store-bought options
  • If you’re serving multiple coffee drinkers, you may run out of coffee if the delivery frequency is monthly. I recommend opting for every two weeks.

FAQ

Is bean box coffee fresh?

Bean Box coffee is roasted to order and delivered at peak freshness and flavor. Just remember to store your beans or grounds properly (these coffee containers do the trick) for maximum freshness for one month and beyond.

How does bean box ship?

Not only does Bean Box ship to all 50 U.S. states, but the brand works with independent roasting partners and ships coffee within 48 hours.

Is bean box coffee ground?

Bean Box offers whole bean and ground coffee subscription options.

What Other Shoppers Had to Say

Bean Box reviewer, Stephanie, raves, “As always, Bean Box selects wonderful and interesting coffees for me to sample on a monthly basis. This one is rich and bold, just what you need in the morning or anytime you have your coffee. Also works well as espresso.”

“Awesome coffees!” shares Bean Box reviewer, Jeremy. “I just love the unique flavor of each batch. You can tell that great care goes into every bean roasted.”

Bean Box reviewer, Aaron, adds, “I love getting to explore and learn more about coffee as I work through different bags. This subscription has been so much fun.”

Product Comparison

These days, coffee subscriptions like Bean Box are quite popular, so how does this brand compare to the rest? Though every coffee subscription is a little different, the bottom line is pretty much the same: Curated coffee delivered to your doorstep whenever and however you want it.

Some popular coffee subscriptions, like Atlas Coffee Club, introduce coffee lovers to beans from around the world. Bean Box’s edge, however, is all about “small-batch, locally-roasted beans” from all over the country. Meaning, they work with independent roasters and in-house coffee sommeliers to introduce you to excellent cups of coffee every time. Bonus: Most of the roasters they partner with are the best of the best in the nation, so yes, they know a thing or two about award-winning cups of Joe.

Final Verdict

If you can’t tell by now, a Bean Box subscription is the secret to easy, caffeine-filled mornings. If you find yourself in a coffee rut, take it from my Bean Box review when I say it’s the best way to learn about and experiment with new flavors and brew methods. Discover a wide reach of coffee beyond what’s available at the grocery store.

Stanley cups are the internet’s current obsession. These attractive tumblers feature double-walled insulation that keeps hot drinks hot and iced drinks cold for hours—even days—at a time. After the release of the Stanley Quencher, WaterTok went wild with endorsements of this large-and-in-charge tumbler.

Now, Stanley is back to breaking the internet with its newest release, Stanley Create. This isn’t a new type of water bottle or an accessory like a cup pouch, though. Instead, Stanley Create offers something even better—the opportunity to personalize your own custom Stanley cup.

Can you get a custom Stanley cup?

On June 20, Stanley launched Stanley Create, a dashboard filled with tools that shoppers can use to customize their cups. Choose from an assortment of gorgeous offerings like cats, suns and flora from artist Rosie Alyea. Or, make Stanley cups even more giftable by adding a recipient’s initials or a brief phrase like names or song lyrics.

Customization costs only $10, making it an affordable option for gifts and personal use. We especially love that the personalization options are available in 17 different tumbler styles, from the cult-favorite Stanley Quencher to the editor-reviewed Legendary bottle. Those who take their bottle to the gym or work can rest easy knowing their Stanley is easily set apart from others. Goodbye, bottle confusion!

How To Get a Custom Stanley Cup

Using the Stanley Create dashboard is easy. Just head over to the Custom Stanley page, then select the product you wish to customize. Most TikTok-famous products from Stanley are available, though there isn’t yet an option for custom coolers. You can also find the dashboard by clicking on the “customize” button on any supported product page to open up Stanley Create.

From there, the site will provide you with an array of graphics, fonts and monogram options to choose from. Horizontal text, different engraving finishes and a few font choices make the possibilities nearly limitless! Think a coffee thermos with a cactus or a bottle featuring lines from Taylor Swift songs. We’re swooning!

Where to Purchase Personalized Stanley Cups

Custom Stanley Cup

Stanley Create is available right on the brand’s website. Custom options tack an extra $10 onto the product’s price, but we think that the cost is a total bargain for a custom Stanley cup. Pick one up today for yourself, or snag one as a custom gift for a loved one that they’ll cherish forever—literally. Stanley cups boast a lifetime guarantee!

What Is Sweet Cream Butter? https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/sweet-cream-butter/ Wed, 19 Jul 2023 14:36:18 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1901105 In the dairy aisle and wondering what makes sweet cream butter different from basic butter? We've got the answers you need!

The post What Is Sweet Cream Butter? appeared first on Taste of Home.

]]>
When you’re browsing the dairy case looking for butter for your next bake, you’ll find that there are so many types of butter: salted, unsalted, cultured, organic, Irish—the list goes on.

While it’s easy to understand what many of these labels mean at first glance, even experienced bakers may find themselves asking so what is sweet cream butter again?

What Really Is Sweet Cream Butter?

Sweet cream butter is just another name for plain ol’ butter. The term sweet cream is used to differentiate this type of butter from options that used cultured cream as a base.

Boxes labeled “sweet cream” use fresh cream as the base. Depending on the package you grab, this butter may also include a small amount of salt. Despite the name, sweet cream butter contains no sugar and it doesn’t have any inherent sweetness. You’ll find that it tastes like straightforward butter.

In contrast, butter made with cultured cream, like Vermont Creamery or Banner Butter, tends to have a tangier flavor.

Regular Butter vs. Sweet Cream Butter

So when it comes to regular butter versus sweet cream butter, there’s no difference to be had. In fact, most types of butter—from sweet cream to Irish to Amish—can be used interchangeably in recipes.

The one label you should pay close attention to, though, is salted or unsalted butter. Some recipes do specify, and you should take note to ensure the best results.

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 9 bacon strips, halved lengthwise

Add shrimp to marinade, toss so each shrimp is coated and let sit in marinade for 15 minutes. Drain shrimp and discard marinade.

Editor’s Tip: Forgot to buy already peeled and deveined shrimp? Don’t worry, because we have a guide that walks you through how to clean shrimp yourself.

Step 3: Wrap shrimp with bacon

How To Make Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

Take one piece of halved bacon and wrap it evenly around shrimp, avoiding the tail. Secure bacon with a toothpick.

Editor’s Tip: Pre-soak toothpicks for 30 minutes so they don’t start on fire while in the broiler.

How To Make Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp FAQs

With so many ways to cook bacon and shrimp, this recipe is super flexible. Here are a few different methods, plus other helpful tips.

How do you make bacon-wrapped shrimp on the grill?

Just be mindful of not overcooking the shrimp. Also, you might catch some leftover bacon grease, so save it to use as cooking oil in other recipes.

Do you precook bacon for wrapping?
